Venues

CHE Event Venues other than Solar Springs
The Center for Holistic Ecology uses these venues aside from Solar Springs (link) for some of the courses:

Gray Bear Lodge
Gray Bear Lodge is a rustic retreat center based two miles down the hill from Solar Springs Lodge. Nestled within 150 acres of rolling hills with abundant forests, natural springs, and a gorgeous waterfall, the Lodge hosts workshops throughout the year with world-renowned instructors in the healing and spiritual fields. Amenities include a hand-built sauna, hot tub, pool, and a new yoga room. Within the Lodge itself— the spacious, elegant heart at the center of the property—a full kitchen serves delicious vegetarian and vegan meals with whole, organic ingredients. For further details check out www.graybear.org.

ETC and the Farm
Based out of The Farm, one of the nation’s most successful intentional communities, the Ecovillage Training Center or ETC is a permaculture site consisting of a grid-tie eco-hostel with an attached greenhouse, graywater and rainwater catchment systems, outdoor solar showers, compost toilets, organic garden, bamboo nursery and marvelous “village” of natural buildings including a cob chicken coop, strawbale cabins, and the enormous, astonishing hybrid Green Dragon Tavern—in-progress—modeled after its namesake from Tolkien’s “The Hobbit.” During extended workshops, participants enjoy vegan and vegetarian meals frequently featuring organic mushrooms, herbs and fresh produce grown on-site. To find out more about the Farm and the ETC visit www.thefarm.org/etc.

Our Bamboo Nursery at Earth Advocates Research Farm
Earth Advocates Research Farm, a business and for-profit hybrid, is the site for our bamboo nursery and features over 200 species of bamboo for ornamental and practical uses. Research conducted at the site includes performance trials on candidate bamboo, screening them for adaptability to our USDA zone 6 continental climate. As well, experiments are underway testing innovative cultural techniques including water harvesting and storage—including aquaculture. Nursery owners Adam and Sue Turtle oversee a bamboo import/quarantine station, publication of the Temperate Bamboo Quarterly journal, and maintenance of an extensive Bamboo library.
